What a difference winter makes…

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

I took this photo back on October 20th of Vandercook Hall on Western Michigan University’s campus.  The array of colors is just awesome as well is the architecture of the building.  It looks even better in print.

So now every time I drive by Vandercook Hall, I look over to see what is currently going on there, image wise that is.  This last time I noticed that they don’t shovel the sidewalks giving it that freshly fallen snow look.  I thought with the hibernating vines and snow it would make a nice black and white photo and a contrast in seasons photo.

Here is a color version of the winter image.  ENJOY!

Fall Family Portraits

Saturday, November 7th, 2009

Oh boy, what did I just get myself into?  Turn this way, tilt your head, smile, chin up, chin down, left, right, etc.   Some friends of mine are living in my Grandmothers house while their new house is being built.  So they wanted some fall family pictures around my grandmother’s property to remind them of their time spent out there.  The property is surrounded by farmland and woods, plus includes a century old barn.  At first I was kind of at a loss as far as poses, where to stand, place hands, look, etc.   For someone who keeps to himself, this was kinda tough for me to get past.  But once you start you develop a little feel for what needs to be happening.  I still have the little things I need to watch out for;  hands, hand placement, straightening up clothes, smiles, eye glass glare, etc.  ENJOY!

Don’t ask me “What about this pose?” cause I might just take a quick picture of it!

Theatre Sound Board

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

Was sitting watching the closing performance of Beauty and the Beast and was repeatedly drawn to the light being cast onto the theater’s  sound board.   There was just something appealing about the yellow cast of light.  All I had was my monopod so I snapped several exposures trying to keep the monopod as still as possible.  I just finally looked at this image tonight and started playing with some different settings.  The B&W version has an Ilford preset applied to it thru Lightroom.
